How to make your blog successful

How to blog

Making sense of internet language can be off putting for the new blogger but with a bit of patience and “steady as she goes” it all becomes second nature with time.

There’s a well known intersection in Hanoi (Vietnam) where traffic converges from all directions into a seemingly frightening mangle of congested traffic. There are no road rules as we know them but some how bikes, pedestrians, motor scooters, cars, buses, dogs, carts, kids, tourists – all manage to weave their way successfully through the maze.

It’s all about taking time, being patient and developing an understanding of how all the elements come together. Crossing that Hanoi intersection is not unlike stepping out into cyberspace, where we weave through the myriad of Internet traffic and lingo to get the bag of gold.

Sometimes there are be collisions on that intersection but the victims just brush themselves off and continue unshaken on their way.

In Hanoi, I would sit in a pub overlooking this famous intersection, and while sipping on a Gin and tonic, I’d study the traffic flows watching and learning the patterns and how everyone made their way to their destination. When I felt I had an understanding of the process I too stepped out into the middle of the mayhem and made my way smoothly to the other side.

It strikes me that delving into making money on the Internet via a blog spot requires the same head space that is needed to navigate this Hanoi intersection. It’s all about patience, trial and error, learning the lingo and what works best for the individual.

Blog spot

One of the main barriers experienced in making money on the Internet is the new lingo. The variety of the tools and foreign words can be overwhelming. You have to learn to Ping, track, interlink, backlink and affiliate, just to name a few and this undoubtedly puts many newcomers off.

Blog logic

The trick is to take it one step at time. When you learn a foreign language you don’t expect to be fluent in one day so apply the same logic to learning the language of money making via a blog on the Internet.

How to blog

To start make sure you have an interesting and informative, grammatically correct article that is not too long and not too short.Do keyword search and include appropriate words and phrases. Add your pictures and/or videos and charts.

Once you have the completed item start by trying one, or two tools if you are feeling particularly clever eg Ping and backlinks. Make sure you understand their purpose and exactly how they work, then apply.

  • Watch the performance of your blog to see if there is in increase in traffic or comments.
  • Fine tune and watch for any changes in traffic.
  • Trial and error are the way forward.
  • Slowly incorporate more tools.
  • Don’t expect thousands of hits on day one. It’s going to take time but as the old fable goes, “slow and steady wins the race.”
  • Read successful hubs.
  • Study their form and look for the common threads.
  • Analyse their layout but retain your own style.
  • Successful blogging is a skill. It’s not something we are born with; the skills have to be acquired so learn from the masters. Check out Hubpages.com for top hubbers.
